PICASSO MUSEUM

Undeniably, it was a great day when the King and Queen of Spain opened the Museo Picasso on 27 October 2003. On the first day  the museum nearly had 2,000 visitors. It is situated in the heart of the historical centre of the city, with the Alcazaba fortress in the background and the Gibralfaro Castle nearby. To the importance of the works of the great artist, this beautiful old building has been carefully restored.

Most visitors go to the Málaga Picasso museum and his house. However, the city has so much more to offer. La Alcazaba

It is one of the two Moorish fortresses in the city, the other is the Castillo de Gibralfaro above. La Alcazaba is the best preserved Moorish fortress/Palace in Spain.


Cathedral
Cathedral-malaga-multiturismoThe Interior of the Cathedral has influences of the Renaissance and Baroque styles. It was built between 1528 and 1782 near the site of a former mosque. While the original plans had allowed for two towers, due to lack of funds led to the completion of only one, as a result, the name under which the Cathedral is affectionately called: La Manquita, “an armed woman”.


Pompidou Centre
Pompidou-malaga-multiturismoOpened on March 28, 2014 is the pop-up Pompidou housed in El Cubo, a cube-shaped glass structure in Malaga port and buildings next to it. Works in the collection of the Centre will include 20th century masterpieces. The Pompidou Málaga will be the example of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, with works from 1905 to the present day, and is the only branch of the museum outside France.


Castillo de Gibralfaro

The castle is famous for its three-month siege by the Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, which was only ended when the hunger forced the Malaguenos to surrender.


Casa Natal

It is located in the Plaza de la Merced, in the heart of the historic centre of Málaga. The area is surrounded by monuments from the rich past of Málaga.

El Parque
